El paisaje cultural del arte rupestre de Gobustán

Abstract

Gobustan, which means the “land of dry riverbed”, certainly displays the major concentration of rock art and archeological traces in the whole region. It is located between the south-eastern outcrops of the Greater Caucasus Range and the Caspian Sea, some 60 km south from Baku. The Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape, which embodies Eurasian human history from the Upper Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages, is a site of great significance for reconstructing the roots of civilizations in the European and Asian geo-cultural context. The uniqueness of the site is representation different sequences of its rock art.

Resumen

Gobustan, que significa la tierra de los ríos secos, presenta la mayor concentración de restos arqueológicos y de arte rupestre en toda la región . Se localiza entre las laderas sudorientales del gran Cáucaso y el mar Caspio, a 60 km al sur de Bakú. El paisaje cultural y de arte rupestre de Gobustan, que encarna la historia de la humanidad en Eurasia desde el Paleolítico Superior hasta la Edad Media, es un enclave de gran significación para reconstruir las raíces de la civilización en los contextos geo-culturales europeos y asiáticos. Lo mas característico de este lugar son sus diferentes secuencias de arte rupestre.
